When you think of a sexual abuse offender, you are most likely to think about men and I do not blame you but I am here to change that. Not to take away from the women who experience assault, this blog is solely devoted to the Men whose stories are ignored and addressing the Stigma around the issue as a whole . What i'm bringing out is definitely not as common as what happens with Women in this country and outside it too, nonetheless, It is an issue to be addressed and should not be ignored.
We talk about feminism but let’s get one thing clear, feminism is not about over-powering the female gender but rather, it means equality. We call men ‘dogs’ and sexual predators but we need to change that to SEXUAL ABUSE OFFENDERS are dogs and predators.
Men have a harder time dealing with post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because the society brings their masculinity into question since, they have been molested by a woman who are considered to be inferior than men especially when it comes to physical strength. 35% of male victims who experience sexual assault report atleast one female perpetrator, this was pooled by the National Crime Victimization Survey.
Social media talks about women being brutally assaulted which is of utmost importance but unfortunately it is not the same for men. Now some may say that it just does not happen but it does and it is high time we start to normalize talking about it. The culture of sexual assault on social media has its pros and cons and effects based on how we perceive it. Female sexual abuse offenders should not be treated any different than male sexual abuse offenders , despite their gender they are sexual predators!
