She ran through the darkness,
Trying to escape his evil gaze,
She cried out for help,
But unfortunately his lust hadn’t been fazed.
She held on to her shawl,
As he began to pull it off her,
Nothing could stop him,
Not even her cry for mercy getting louder.
He called her names,
Before knocking her to the ground,
Held her face in his hands,
Feeling nothing but proud.
The next day she was found,
Huddled in a corner of a narrow lane,
Lying in a pool of her own blood,
And from her mouth came not a sound.
She touched her neck,
And felt the marks of his brutality all over,
She couldn’t think of what to do next,
He left her feeling like a train wreck.
He had torn her soul apart,
Without any hesitation,
All she could think was,
What is wrong with the men in our nation?
She went back home,
Carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders,
Told her family what had happened,
“Who will marry you now?” was all her mother spoke.
